There's great news for all those who want assurances that they'd be able to get their boats out to deep water from Island Moorings and The Moorings due to the frequent silting of Piper Channel. The channel provides boat access from Island Moorings to the Corpus Christi Ship Channel and the Gulf of Mexico. Thanks to the recent announcement of some $6.35 million from local, state and federal funding for projects in this area, the silting of Piper Channel; the result of the weather and large ships making their way through the Corpus Christi Ship Channel to and from the Port of Corpus Christi, will finally be resolved.
Homeowners and would-be homeowners have long been concerned about this matter. But this no longer poses a problem.
In addition to the funds that will be used for preserving the 1,2000 acre Port Aransas Nature Preserve, the funds have been used for two 800 foot jetties that are located at the mouth of Piper Channel as it empties into the Corpus Christi Ship Channel. The metal and rock jetties have been designed to keep the channel from silting. Apart from easing the concerns of boat owners who enjoy deep sea fishing, this activity should have a significant impact on home values in the Island Moorings area.
